Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a modality of medicine that was developed in east Asia with several thousand years of documented practice. There are many lineages that have been combined to form what has come to be recognized as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). We use very small, single use, sterile needles at specific acupuncture points to manipulate a patient’s qi, in other words, affect change in a person’s body. We begin with a pulse and tongue diagnosis and use that information to create a TCM understanding of the affected organ systems and channels in the body.

Acupuncture is a way of activating the body’s innate healing ability and helps guide the body back to its natural state of homeostasis. Some sensations that are normal in any acupuncture session could be a feeling of tugging, aching, pulling, pressure, hot, cold, tingling or numbness. All of these are representative of your qi being stimulated and beginning to heal your body. Acupuncture can be used to successfully help manage symptoms such as:

Pain symptoms - low back pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, headaches, migraines, neck pain, ankle pain, foot pain, pain in any joints, peripheral neuropathy.

Male & female reproductive symptoms- dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, consistent uterine bleeding, heavy menstrual cycles, erectile dysfunction, spermatorrhea, and premature ejaculation, male and female infertility, post partum care, pregnancy support.

Metabolic symptoms -high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol.

Mental health -anxiety, depression, stress, bipolar disorder.

Sleep symptoms -insomnia, sleep walking, night terrors.

Digestive symptoms -difficult indigestion, acid reflux, diarrhea, constipation, gas and bloating.

Herbal Therapy

Chinese herbal formulas are a branch of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and can be practiced alone but is typically practiced in conjunction with acupuncture. Numerous textbooks and written accounts have shown the use of herbal formulas in ancient China to treat every day maladies or even more serious symptoms. Herbal formulas can be taken in many forms, and at Baihui, we focus on prescribing granule and capsule herbal formulas.

Granule formulas are the physical herbs that are ground up into a powder, then put into water to dissolve and taken as a tea. Capsules are simply granule herbs that are put into pill form for more convenient ingestion. Similar to acupuncture, we perform tongue and pulse diagnosis to get a distinct understanding of the various organ systems and channels that are misaligned in the body, and use the appropriate Chinese herbal formula to address it. Herbal formulas can be used to successfully help manage symptoms such as:

Pain symptoms - low back pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, headaches, migraines, neck pain, ankle pain, foot pain, pain in any joints, peripheral neuropathy.

Male & female reproductive symptoms- dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, consistent uterine bleeding, heavy menstrual cycles, erectile dysfunction, spermatorrhea, and premature ejaculation, male and female infertility, post partum care, pregnancy support.

Metabolic symptoms -high blood pressure, high blood sugar, high cholesterol.

Mental health -anxiety, depression, stress, bipolar disorder.

Sleep symptoms -insomnia, sleep walking, night terrors.

Digestive symptoms -difficult indigestion, acid reflux, diarrhea, constipation, gas and bloating.

Cupping

The use of cupping for medicinal benefit can be traced back thousands of years, with early documentation of the practice being heavily employed in Egypt. Cupping is a form of myofascial therapy that creates a suction mechanism over muscle tissues and fascia, and works to break up adhesions in the muscle fibers, as well as bring up old and dead metabolites from the body to the surface to be processed and excreted. Cupping brings qi and blood to acute or chronic injuries sites and encourages local healing. Cupping is most primarily used in the treatment of pain related symptoms, but can also be utilized for general health and wellness, especially for those who are particularly physically active.

Moxibustion

Moxabustion (or moxa) originated as a form of medical treatment in China several thousand years ago, and was a very accessible and wide spread practice. Moxa is typically made from mugwort that is compacted and purified into cones, sticks or even loose balls, that is burned on or near a patient’s skin. Moxa functions to boost a person’s qi and warm the body, thereby driving out cold and damp elements that have entered through environmental or dietary factors, and improving a person’s overall health. Moxa is regularly used in the treatment of female and male reproductive symptoms, as well as pain and digestive related symptoms. It is a very versatile and simple treatment style used in treating many different conditions.

Gua Sha

Gua sha is another long-standing technique in medicine with usage rooted in various countries, focused on the purpose of myofascial therapy. By scraping against muscle tissue and fascia in rhythmic motions, gua sha is able to relax and renew tight or inflamed muscle fibers in order to boost healing by brining qi and blood flow to the area of injury and/or pain.

NAET

NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergry Elimination Technique) is a relatively new treatment style that draws on the specialties of many different medical fields, most strongly Chinese medicine. NAET functions to help manage sensitives that individuals may have to food items or environmental agents that cause symptoms in their body. It helps to promote the smooth flow of qi through all of the different channel pathways of the various organ systems in the body, which in turn encourages optimal overall health.
